Simple Dietary Changes That Can Have an Enormous Impact on Your Health

We all want to be healthier.  Some want to live to the age of 117; while others just want to get the most out of the life they are given.  This has been a universal aspiration probably since man has attained self-consciousness.  Incredible breakthroughs have been brought about with the goals of longevity and quality of life as the sole motivator.  What if I told you, that while these breakthroughs in health have had an amazing and positive impact, the same headlong spirit that carried these brought with it dietary changes that have sabotaged our health and wellness?  The following changes can be made in your life relatively easily and may have profound results.
                        Stop drinking your calories!
Beer, specialty coffees, juice and especially soda have quite efficiently played a significant role in the development of our rolls.  When you drink beverages that have calories, your body can’t recognize the calories due to the fact that you don’t feel full after consuming them.  Due to that, you body is still hungry so you still eat a full meal, while consuming a snack along side it and you can’t see it.
                        Sugar is the enemy
More and more studies are coming out stating that all the evidence points to sugar as being the largest culprit in the obesity epidemic throughout the world.  These studies disagree with the long-held belief that fats are making us fat.  To take it a step further, sugar has been implicated in other health issues.  Diabetes, is just the tip of the iceberg.  What if I told you the inflammatory properties in sugar is feeding cancers?  Another claim is that sugar and inflammation cause more heart attacks than cholesterol does.  What about auto-immune disease being spurred on by sugar consumption?  To make things even tougher, they are finding that sugar is as addictive as heroin.  This may be a difficult battle to fight, but it’s a battle worth fighting for your health.
Fruits and Vegetables make a return
Don’t call it a comeback.  We’ve always been told the importance of eating our fruits and vegetables, but many of us have difficulty meeting our goals.  Here is some motivation:  more vegetables results in actually being full, resulting in fewer calories, while feeling satisfied.  Fruits can stave off craving for sugar due to the natural sugars that are paired with the healthy fiber.  The vitamins and minerals in the fruits and vegetables can actually protect your body from the damaged done by sugars.
So, think you can do it?  Three changes that can have fantastic benefit to your ability to fight illness, prevent effects of aging and add life to your years.  They may not be easy, but they are worth it.  Remember, 1 year from now you can be in similar or worse shape, or you can be making great strides in how you feel overall and about yourself in general.  You can do it.

Why Do I Care About Your Sleep?

If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you likely remember my droning on and on about “chiropractors look for the cause”.  I say it all the time because it’s true.  Only focusing on the obvious is like replacing your tires that are wearing too quickly rather than getting a rotation and balance to get maximum mileage from them.  Often subluxation is causing your issues and being adjusted can do amazing things for your health and wellness.  Other times, something else is causing the subluxation and until the cause is found and corrected, no amount of adjustments is going to fully fix the problem.  Sleep is often one of the examples of this circumstance.  Not getting enough sleep can cause a lot of issues and chiropractic can help with many of them, but until your sleep hygiene is addressed, issues will continue to arise.  From my concern, there are two main concerns regarding your sleep.   Quantity of sleep and quality of sleep (groundbr...

Pay Attention.

Focus.   I can’t tell you how many times I say that word to my children.   Whether it’s eating, walking, homework, or just listening to what their mother or I are telling them.   The instruction to focus has been a recurrent theme in my children’s lives since my oldest was about 2 or so.   If you think about it, there is more to my favorite parenting mantra than meets the eye. There’s a saying that if you’re multi-tasking, you’re actually half-assing and studies are beginning to agree.   Trying to do multiple things at the same time results in poorer results for all of those tasks.   Here’s a link to an article suggesting as much:   https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/0010028589900169 From personal experience, I could not study or do work from home and parent at the same time.   I was short-tempered asking for near-silence and then talking and playing and not giving the attention needed to comprehend what I was reading. ...

You aren't being chased by a tiger all day... stop acting like it

Mental stress is something we all deal with.   While there are positive and negative scenarios surrounding the source of the stress, our bodies react the same way regardless.   Being chased by a tiger has the same physiological reaction as the first day of your dream job.   Our physiological reaction is a good thing, in fact.   Both from an adaptation perspective and from a biological perspective.   The problem is that we aren’t designed to be chased by a tiger from the moment we wake up to the moment we finally fall asleep.                 “What can be done though?” the reader thought aloud with rapt attention.                 I get it.   There are some stresses that are unavoidable, but there are ways to minimize...
